Road Trips. Chapter Five. The Left Lane.

misc 165

Let’s quickly review a foundation of operating a motor vehicle: the left lane on an interstate is for passing only.

It is no place to fool around.

It is no place to “lose yourself” on a monotonous slog of highway while absorbed in your thoughts or a steamy love scene on the book tape.

It is no place for you to decide that’s just how you are going to drive and the rest of the traffic on the road can be damned.

It is not the domestic version of the Autobahn.

“Because the road is smoother here” is no excuse.

“Because you can” is no excuse either.

It’s called a passing lane for a reason.

And this is a pet peeve of mine.

That is all.
